The flash-furnace has been stopped and emptied at the Bor Smelter, whereby the major overhaul of the metallurgy aggregates has officially begun. It will take until September 2022.

Serbia Zijin Copper is stepping up the technical reconstruction and construction of new converters, anode furnaces and other facilities, so in the next four months, the old smelter systems will be connected with the new ones. The electrostatic filter will be replaced as well, so that the collection of dust particles from the smelting process would be unified. The construction of that system will be completed this year, thanks to which the air quality in Bor will be even better, the company says in an announcement.

Serbia Zijin Copper has so far invested more than USD 1.2 billion in the modernization of the processes in the former RTB Bor, and over USD 170 million has been invested in environmental protection. The decades-long problem of the polluted air in Bor has largely been solved, because the values of all the emissions are within the allowed band and very often below the limit.

Upon the completion of the project of technical reconstruction, construction and expansion, Serbia Zijin Copper is expected to reach an annual production capacity of 180,000 tons of cathode copper and three to five tons of gold a year by 2025, it is added.
