– At the joint meeting of representatives of our Group, the associations Zitounija and Zita Srbije and the Novi Sad Commodities Market, dedicated to the decision on the temporary ban on the export of basic agricultural-food products important for the populace, we defined a joint initiative of the economy toward the Government of Serbia to allow the free export of flour, as well as the export of grains (wheat and corn), while defining maximum quotas – explained Aleksandar Bogunovic, the secretary of the Association for Plant Production and Food Industry of the CCIS.
As said in the press release, the representatives of the associations point out that a long-standing ban on the export of flour, wheat and corn could cause problems to the spring sowing as well, because agriculturists need money to be able to finance it.
– The consequences will be handled by producers and exporters which export through ports, because they can’t place their goods, and they are bound by contracts. If they don’t realize the export, they will suffer financial consequences. The exporters contracted the export of their goods at advance prices, so for that reason it is necessary for them to realize their contracted jobs on time and before the potential drop in prices – Bogunovic pointed out.
He reminds that the export of flour has been dropping in the past years and that this moment is a good opportunity to earn back the trust of the traditional customers and increase the export through a higher phase of processing.
