The session of the City Assembly of Belgrade, where next year’s budget will be deliberated, should be held at the beginning of next week. The assistant mayor of Belgrade, Andreja Mladenovic does not specify the amount, but says for N1 that the funds for the designing of urban plans and other, as he said, preparatory projects and the research necessary for the beginning of the construction of the subway system have been secured.

He says that there will be money in the city budget, that the construction of a new bridge should start next year in the location of the Old Sava Bridge, and he has also confirmed that the city authorities have not given up on building a gondola at Kalemegdan.

– As for the gondola, it remains as a project, but it will not be realized before the archaeological research, necessary for the preparation of the ground and the position where the gondola should pass, is finished – Mladenovic says for N1.

When asked whether the money is secured or not at the moment, the assistant mayor says that it was secured three years ago.

– The money was secured three years ago together with the government, and there was a ratio of how much the state contributes and how much the city does, so, when the conditions meet for it, when the building permit is obtained, the city will be ready to finance its part of the construction of the gondola – Mladenovic said.

Let us remind that, in June, the director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, Dubravka Djukanovic, stated that, before the construction of the gondola system at Kalemegdan, archaeological and other research should be carried out.

In March, the Renewables and Environmental Regulatory Institute (RERI) announced that the Administrative Court had made a ruling whereby the lawsuit of the RERI is upheld and the construction permit for the building of a gondola system on Kalemegdan, issued by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure on April 1, 2019, is canceled.

In January 2021, the adviser to the president of Serbia, Suzana Vasiljevic, and then also the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, announced the construction of the gondola which would link the Usce park and Kalemegdan, after a nearly two-year silence about this project in the public.

The organization Europa Nostra Srbija has told eKapija that they are still against this project.
