Numerous Companies Interested in Investments in Prahovo Chemical Park

The first industrial-chemical park in Serbia, the one in Prahovo, a large project which is in the phase of the regulation plan and the obtaining of permits, is already drawing a lot of attention from investors, especially Chinese companies which are interested in being a step closer to their business partners, pointed out Vladimir Todorovic, the vice president of Elixir Group, as announced by the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS).

Todorovic, who was appointed new president of the Board of the Association for Chemical, Rubber and Non-Metal Industries of the CCIS at the board’s session, pointed out that the Prahovo Chemical Park, as a place where chemical companies with similar needs for energy, infrastructure, waste disposal and others will work, was a great opportunity for the future and the development of east Serbia, considering that it is located at the tripoint between Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia, on a crossroads of European road, river and rail corridors.

– The production of chemicals and chemical products, thanks to the increased demand for disinfection products, detergents and alcohol, recorded a growth of 5.9% in 2020 compared to 2019, which is a considerable increase, also taking into account the growth of 0.4% of the overall industrial production in Serbia – pointed out Dragan Stevanovic, the secretary of the Association for Chemical, Rubber and Non-Metal Industries of the CCIS.

At the session of the association’s board at the Elixir Prahovo company, he said that the production of pesticides and chemicals for agriculture, including biocide products for disinfection, had recorded a considerable increase.

The foreign trade of chemical industry products amounted to EUR 6.1 billion, which is 15.3% of the total trade of Serbia.

The majority of the exports pertain to rubber and plastic products, worth EUR 1.5 billion, whereby a surplus of EUR 434 million was realized in 2020.

Ljuba Stojcic, the director of Elixir Prahovo, pointed out that the company had celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2020 and that, in 2012, the phosphoric acid factory had produced around 20,000 tons of 50% phosphoric acid, whereas, following the expansion of the production capacities, to be realized in 2022, the annual production would amount to around 400,000 tons of phosphoric acid, mostly used for the production of fertilizers.

This year, a new NPK fertilizer factory was built, with a production capacity of 300,000 tons a year.

– The aluminum trifluoride factory had good results as well. This additive is used in the production of aluminum. In four months of operations, from December 2019, it reached around 95% of its projected capacity, so we expect to reach an annual production of around 5,000 tons of this additive in about a month – Stojcic said.

According to him, the idea is to double the port’s capacity, to 3 million tons.
