Representatives of the Serbian companies had the biggest number of meetings with potential partners from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Lebanon, Jordan, Yemen, Egypt and India, who had the opportunity to taste Serbian food, fruit, vegetables, juices and dairy products and make sure of the quality of the offer, the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS) says on its website.
The presentation of 11 companies from Serbia at the food fair in Dubai, which is taking place between February 21 and 25, has been organized by the CCIS and the Development Agency of Serbia (DAS).
– Gulfood is important for our food industry, because it enables companies not just to present themselves to the big UAE market, but also to a wider region and clients from other countries of Asia and Africa. Companies which have already exhibited there are present at the fair, but there are also new exhibitors and we wish them plenty of success and new jobs – said Katarina Jovanovic Obradovic, Assistant Minister of Economy of Serbia.
Marko Selakovic, the head of the CCIS office in Dubai, points out that it is a great success to organize a fair of this size in the time of the coronavirus pandemic, with compliance with all the protection measures.
– The presentation of the Serbian companies at the fair reflects the food industry of our country – said Selakovic, who expects our economy to position well in these large and demanding markets.
A range of domestic products has been presented to the world: frozen, dried and canned fruit and vegetables, fruit spreads, jams, dairy products, food for children, cold-pressed juices, products from extruded rice and hummus, butter, milk, pit fruit…
The UAE imports more than 80% of the food products, of which a half is re-exported to the countries of the Gulf and eastern Africa. Owning a halal certificate gives an added value to the product for producers who want to export to the UAE market. This certificate is mandatory when it comes to products such as milk, dairy and meat.
Gulfood takes up 100,000 m2, and there are more than 95,000 guests a year from around 100 countries. This year, 2,845 exhibitors applied.
