The City of Belgrade has not given up on purchasing 100 buses, despite the decreased inflow into the city budget due to the coronavirus pandemic. As deputy mayor Goran Vesic told Novosti, the tender should open in late 2020, but it will largely depend on the budget rebalance, which is to be done in September.

– We bought 244 new buses, whereby the average age of the GSP rolling stock dropped from 11 to around 3.5 years. This year, we will buy another 100 new buses. We should open the tendering procedure at the end of the year. Once the budget rebalance is done, namely, in September, and if everything goes as planned, we will set aside money for this, as much as we need to open a public procurement procedure – Vesic says.

As the deputy mayor claims, the city has done everything to keep the drivers from leaving the country. He notes that the average salary of a GSP driver is now RSD 74,000, which, according to him, has prevented them from leaving to work abroad.

Let us remind that the city bought 174 new buses of the Chinese company Higer. The value of those buses is EUR 35 million. Last June, Belgrade bought 70 Turkish buses for EUR 10 million.
