The Municipality of Arilje has decided for the local assembly to no longer issue building permits for the construction of mini hydro power plants (MHPPs), which will also protect the Veliki Rzav, the cleanest river in Serbia, from being subject to the raising of one such facility.

As Blic writes, the rivers Mali Rzav, Panjica, Moravica, Biljeska Reka and Katusnica, which investors find interesting, will also be protected from the construction of MHPPs.

This Thursday, the members of the City Assembly of Arilje unanimously adopted the decision on the preparation of amendments to the spatial plan of the municipality, which leaves no possibility of issuing building permits for MHPPs while the act is in effect.

– Until the amendments to the plan are adopted, there is a ban on preparation of planning and urban-technical documents for development of new locations for construction of mini hydro power plants and issuing of location requirements and building permits for MHPPs for all locations which have not started the procedure of adopting planning documents before the City Assembly of Arilje – Article 7 of the adopted Spatial Plan reads.

The initiative for the ban of construction of MHPPs was launched by the environmental association “Rzav” from Arilje in cooperation with WWF Adria.
