The corridor section through Sumadija, a high-speed motorway with two lanes in both directions, previously announced by the Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic on the opening of Milos the Great motorway, will connect central and east Serbia and will be named after Karadjordje, the leader of the First Serbian Uprising.

Vozd Karadjordje motorway will connect Corridors X and X. Two branches of the motorway will start in Lajkovac and Mladenovac will then join in Arandjelovac and from there will continue through Topola and the birth place of Vozd Karadjordje, Visevac to Raca, and then through Svilajnac and Despotovac to Bor.

– This will be a high-speed route with two lanes in both directions that will connect Corridors X and XI and it is supposed to be finished in the next four year, said Zoran Drobnjak, the Acting Director of PUC Roads of Serbia,t he company in charge of the motorway construction.

Corridors of Serbia stated that the construction of the high-speed route Vozd Karadjordje represented a big opportunity for the development of that part of Serbia, writes Blic daily.

The company pointed out that the fact that 80% of investment projects in Serbia are located near the motorways spoke of importance of transport infrastructure to economic development.

--The construction of Vozd Karadjordje motorway is highly significant to reducing unemployment and developing underdeveloped municipalities that this road passes through, Corridors of Serbia said.

The project documentation for the construction of the corridor section through Sumadija is being prepared, though it is already clear that this road will directly connect with Corridor X, that is, to Belgrade- Nis highway, since it will intersect it near Markovac.

Vozd Karadjordje route could have a link to Corridor X near Mladenovac , while it should link to Corridor XI near Lajkovac, that is, Milos the Great motorway.

The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday, during the opening of three section of Milos the Great motorway, that they decided to start preparing project documentation for the construction of Vozd Karadjordje route that day.

As he stated, the route will be just one more among new motorways since they were also planning the construction of the last section of the route to Montenegro, from Pozega to Boljare.

New motorway to be between 220 km and 270 km long

New corridor section through Sumadija, will be between 220km and 270 km in length and it will cost between EUR 1.7 billion and over Eur 2 billion, depending on the highway profile and access to other corridors, said Zorana Mihaljovic, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Construction , Transport and Infrastructure.

The new motorway will be a Y-shape route and will connect counties with over one million residents.

One route of the road will be Mladenovac - Orasac - Arandjelovac and the other Lazarevac - Arandjelovac where the two sections connect and the road continues to Raca, Svilajnac, Despotovac and Bor, Mihajlovic told Tanjug.

She added that Vozd Karadjordje will be the sixth motorway to start construction on in the current and the following year.
