Knauf Insulation has been bringing clean air to your lofts for ten years now

Precisely 10 years ago, a revolution took place in the industry of insulation materials – Knauf Insulation patented the Ecose technology, a unique bio-binder based on quickly renewable natural materials instead of oil products.

What is it, really?

Mineral wools (both stone and glass) have been produced for decades using the same principle – mineral raw materials are melted in high temperatures, producing fine fibers whose main characteristic is the retention of air – and we all know that air is the best insulator. In order for those fibers to be connected into a roll or a panel, some kind of a binder needs to be used. Traditional binders used by all manufacturers in the world are based on oil products.

This is where Knauf Insulation made that extra step. They made, tested and patented the Ecose technology, which is used to make a binder based on quickly renewable natural materials, and not oil products.

The nature made its point – unique earthen-brown wool started coming off the company’s production lines. This sort of wool is not unique just in the local market, but in the global market as well. Products were created to which no formaldehyde, coloring, acrylic, or anything that shouldn’t be inside a home, is added.

The extent to which this technology is revolutionary is shown by the efforts of other companies to make their own varieties of natural binders, which they offered at considerably higher prices.

For Knauf Installation, there was no doubt – Ecose technology has been available in all markets at the same price as the old products from the very beginning, which pertains to all products installed towards the exterior (lofts, partition walls, attics and floors).

Even the factory in Surdulica was the first one within the Knauf Group to implement the Ecose technology in stone wool.

What does “clean air” mean?

Insulation rolls and plates featuring the Ecose technology are cut more easily, they produce less powder residue and they don’t smell. What does the air from our title have to do with it? There’s something called “the quality of interior air” and, believe it or not, this topic is becoming more important even that the quality of external air.

Why? Because we spend most our time (up to the incredible 90%) in closed spaces. It stands to reason, then, that what’s inside and what surrounds us in our homes, offices and schools has become an object of increased attention and serious studies. What kind of air do we breathe in and can something be done about it?

Of course it can. All it takes is for the materials that surround us to exude harmful matters to a very low degree or not at all.

There are even certificates that prove how certain materials behave in the sense of what they emit (you wouldn’t believe what we breathe in from furniture, carpets, wallpapers, flooring...).
