Low cost, tourist and workers' charter flights, as well as air taxi flights, might soon become available at the Cenej Airport, and the PE Urbanizam has prepared a conceptual framework of the detailed regulation plan of the airport, which means that it might soon be put up for public review, reports Dnevnik from Novi Sad.

The plan covers around 148 hectares of the sports and agricultural airport, a part of the farming land and a part of the Horgos-Belgrade state road.

The Cenej Airport currently houses the premises of Aero-Klub Novi Sad.

Zoran Drakula, a member of the Managing Board of Aero-Klub Novi Sad and a motor kite flight instructor, says that the golden age of the club was between the 1960s and the 1970s. He adds that the members of the club want a tourist-sports center to be established within the airport.

– The idea is to open a restaurant, a playroom for children, to enable recreational flights, and the construction of a small pool and an inn – Drakula said.

The Cenej Airport has a long tradition and was used by some of the best Yugoslav pilots.

– Vojvodina has around two million citizens, for whom we would simplify trips to Thessaloniki, Tivat, Budapest, Ljubljana or Vienna – Drakula points out.

– The construction of an airport in Novi Sad would unburden the Nikola Tesla Airport. Of course, the plan doesn't include jumbo jets or airbuses, as the runway is not long enough, but smaller charter-flights.

Drakula emphasized that the adoption of the said proposition was the first real step towards the realization of the plan.

Also, the idea has never had such support of the City, the Province and the Republic of Serbia before. As he said, there has been a lot of confusion in the past due to mentions of cargo-transport and large passenger planes.

This summer, the Morava Airport in Ladjevci near Kraljevo will open for civilian air transport.
