In December 2018, the French company Vinci Airports took over the management of the Belgrade Airport for a period of 25 years, for which it paid a one-off concession fee of EUR 501 million.
– We have great expectations for the Nikola Tesla Airport. In addition to our own efforts, the growth of the transport also depends on a certain number of macroeconomic parameters we have no control over. It is therefore complicated to come out with a precise figure of the expected growth of the number of passengers in the next five to ten years. However, our ambition is to reach the threshold of 15 million passengers a year before the expiration of the concession period – Notebaert said.
He said that it was in the interest of the Belgrade Airport for the national airline Air Serbia to be successful.
– Vinci aims to cooperate with Air Serbia and for this cooperation to be the key part of our airport development strategy. One of our main goals is to improve the operating conditions at the airport in order to enable Air Serbia to launch new air services as part of its strategy of the formation of a hub – Notebaert said.
According to him, the ambitious plans of the development of Belgrade Airport include the concept of integrated operations at the terminal, along with an increased capacity and an improved general atmosphere within the terminal.
– We will also carry out works on the airport's maneuvering surfaces, namely additional plane platforms, a new runway, new taxiways and the rehabilitation of the existing taxiway. New utility facilities will be built in order for the airport to be more efficient and in line with the highest environmental protection standards, such as a new waste water treatment facility and solar panels – Notebaert.
Vinci Airports marks the beginning of the concession period at the Belgrade Airport today, and the ceremony will be attended by Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.
