After several decades, the International Film Festival FEST is going back to Kombank Dvorana, formerly called Dom Sindikata (Trade Union Hall).
As MCF MegaCom Film announced, the 47th FEST will be held from February 22 till March 3 at this facility, where it was born back in 1971.
With the return of one the jewels of its repertoire, the modernized Kombank Dvorana enhances its offer of cultural events, contributing to the revival of the old times’ spirit and the creation of new festival memories.
During the 13-day festival, movies from all over the world will be shown at Kombank Dvorana for both the festival’s regular audience and journalists and film experts.
In 1971, the first FEST, under the slogan “Brave New World”, opened with Robert Altman’s M.A.S.H. The program also included 2001: A Space Oddysey and Easy Rider, as well as films directed by Eric Rohmer, Luis Bunuel and Zivojin Pavlovic. A total of 73 films were screened within five programs, and the first FEST was attended by around 105,000 viewers.
In the ensuing years, Federico Fellini, Roberto Rossellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Luis Bunuel, Milos Forman and many other authors visited Belgrade while their films were being shown at FEST. Particularly memorable was the second FEST, sponsored by Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito and hosted by Kirk Douglas, Monica Vitti, members of the Apollo 15 crew and painter Olja Ivanjicki.
So far, FEST has been visited by four million viewers. Nearly 4,000 important films have been shown, most of them having their Serbian or regional premiere at FEST.
