As President Aleksandar Vucic said after the meeting, when it comes to energy, there were talks about the power network from Resita, Romania, to Pancevo and about gas supply in Serbia, since the gas supply situation in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania is much simpler.
– They supported us and I expect this problem to be solved in the upcoming period – Vucic said at a joint press conference.
He pointed out that it was also important for Serbia to soon complete the eastern and the southern branches of Corridor 10 and added that the country would be ready to “reach” the borders of Macedonia and Bulgaria after several weeks or months, which is important for both Greece and Bulgaria. He said that they had considered the construction of the highway through Vrsac to Timisoara and added that he was satisfied that Romania had recently initiated the preparation of a feasibility study for the project.
– We believe that, if the decision is made, whether they choose a PPP or financing from budgets and funds, we can start building a corridor that is important for Serbia – Vucic said.
This would connect Belgrade by highway to Timisoara, Thessaloniki, Sofia and Athens, which is of great importance. Connection by railway was also discussed, and Vucic reminded that Serbia invested EUR 261 million in the modernization of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad railway.
– We expect to reach a decision for the railway to Vranje and to the border, and to agree on the finances with Skopje. The road to Thessaloniki, Athens and the Port of Piraeus would be of great importance for us – Vucic pointed out.
