Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced on Monday, July 23, 2018, that its head of operations in Europe and the Middle East had resigned following the stepping down of former CEO Sergio Marchionne due to illness.

Alfredo Altavilla resigned on Monday, two days after the head of Jeep, Mike Manley, was appointed the new CEO by the Fiat board, succeeding the 66-year-old Marchionne.

Altavilla was considered one of the main candidates for the job. His duties will temporarily be performed by Manley.

FCA stock dropped 3% upon the news of Marchionne's premature stepping down from the CEO position.
