Revitalization of navigation lock at Djerdap to begin in August 2019

The works on the revitalization of the navigation lock at Djerdap will begin in August 2019 and will take a year, assistant minister for water transport, Veljko Kovacevic, said on TV Kladovo.

The navigation lock at HPP Djerdap 1, on which unobstructed water transport in Europe depends, will be modernized through this project, with its life cycle extended by 25 years.

The project is carried by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, at whose proposal the European Commission approved the financing of the project, worth a total of EUR 28.5 million.

Since 1970, a total of 76,280 various vessels passed through the navigation lock on the Serbian side of Djerdap 1.

Let us remind that, in October 2017, the beginning of the works was announced for November 2018.
