EPS to prepare reconstruction of Vlasina Hydro Power Plants – Life cycle to extend by 30 years, system power higher by 8%

The public enterprise Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) recently submitted a request for the deliberation on the need for an environmental impact estimate for the project of reconstruction of production generators and the accompanying equipment in the Vlasina Hydro Power Plants.

As the company told eKapija, the project envisages the revitalization of all ten generators in the system of the Vlasina Hydro Power Plants in four locations (four generators at HPP Vrla 1, two each at HPP Vrla 2, HPP Vrla 3 and HPP Vrla 4).

The revitalization will maintain the production capacities that have been operating for over 60 years now and extend their life cycle by at least 30 years, while at the same time increasing the reliability and stability of the system.

EPS explains that the current installed power in the entire system is 127 MW, whereas the revitalization would increase it by around 8%, and additional 10 MW for these hydro power plants.

They also say that there have been regular repairs and maintenance so far, and that this project plans for the entire mechanical and electronic equipment (turbines and generators) will be replaced for the first time.

– The entire project is in the phase of the preparation of investment-technical documentation, so a detailed project realization plan has not yet been defined – they add.

EPS also emphasizes that, when it comes to the hydro sector, big projects of revitalization of several important facilities were realized in 2017 alone, such as Generator 1 at HPP Djerdap 1, Generator 2 at HPP Zvornik, and other big projects are being carried out or planned as well.
