Excise tax on unroasted coffee will be RSD 85.75 per kilogram, whereas RSD 107.18 will be paid per kilogram of roasted coffee.
Four to five billion dinars of state budget income is expected from this special tax next year.
Nikolic said while presenting the new MAT issue that the amendments to the Law on Excise Taxes had come into effect in January 2017 and that the enforcement of the provision of charging the excise tax on coffee had been postponed until January 1, 2018.
– Next year’s budget income is planned conservatively, which means that a larger income could be realized, as the regular annual amendment of the excise tax on tobacco is also planned, in addition to the coffee tax – Nikolic said.
He added that taxes on those two products alone would contribute a lot to the 2018 budget.
He assessed that the implementation of the excise tax on coffee didn’t necessarily need to lead to an increase in retail prices, as the expenditure might be handled by retailers, instead of making consumers pay for it, because the price of raw coffee had not been changed since the previous year.
