A series of plays within the event called “In Honor of Andric”, organized on the occasion of 125 years from the birth of the prominent writer and Nobel Prize recipient Ivo Andric, will be performed in November and December on both stages of the National Theater in Belgrade.

As stated in a press release by the National Theater, four plays dedicated to the renowned writer from the repertoire of Serbian theaters will be performed during the said period, the first of which, “Play Andric or The People Who You Can't Say Much About”, adapted and directed by Mia Knezevic, was performed on November 14 on the Main Stage by the actors of the Kraljevo Theater.

Basing her play on excerpts from The Bosnian Chronicle, Knezevic has skillfully managed to translate Andric's work to the language of theater, without losing anything of the richness of the language and the narration.

The next play, “Anika and Her Times”, a co-production of the Serbian National Theater of Novi Sad and the Beo Art agency, directed by Ana Djordjevic, will be performed on November 24, at 7:30 pm, on the Main Stage.

Of the multitude of characters, the director places in focus, in addition to Anika, a promiscuous woman of extraordinary beauty, the local priest and his son Jaksa, who is looking for a way out of the confines of the life his father and his environment impose on him through an affair with the “outcast woman”.

The Sabac Theater guests on the Rasa Plaovic Stage on November 30, at 8:30 pm, with a performance of “Cain's Scar”, based on the eponymous novel by Vladimir Kecmanovic and Dejan Stojiljkovic and directed by Jug Radivojevic.

The program concludes on December 8, with a 7:30 pm, Main Stage performance by the Serbian National Theater of Novi Sad of “The Bridge on the Drina”, based on Andric's eponymous novel and directed by Kokan Mladenovic.

According to the director, the novel provides a great opportunity to tell another story of our times, a story of evil perpetually happening in the same place for over 400 years, an unending evil.

Tickets can be bought at discount prices at the National Theater.
