The minister pointed out that special focus would be placed on using biomass in the coming period.
– I am absolutely convinced that we will be able to reach the projected 27% by 2020 – Antic said at the New Serbian Energy Strategy conference.
He said that projects which were supposed to secure an additional 500 MW from wind power were also in progress and added that special focus should be placed on using biomass, Serbia's biggest potential.
– Serbia finds wind and solar parks more attractive, because that's what we see when we travel, but we are neglecting the fact that our biggest potential lies in biomass – Antic emphasized.
According to him, if Serbia's total RES potential is around 5.6 million tons of oil equivalent, around 3.3 million of it comes from biomass.
– There needs to be a much greater focus on biomass, and the ministry has worked on promoting it and will continue to do so by raising small facilities and making investments in biomass and biogas, but primarily through constant pressure on remote heating systems – Antic said and added that heating plans were switching to using biomass with increasing frequency.
