The best cooked sausage in Serbia is produced by Backa a.d, as decided by the expert jury at the first competition in making sausages out of meat from local farms, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia (CCIS).

The jury, made up of 21 experts from institutions for hygiene and food production technology, decided that the Best Serbian Sausage brand should also be awarded to products of the agricultural cooperative Trlic and the meat industry Gombit, the CCIS reports.

The goal of the competition was to enhance the brand and the competitiveness of local producers, and the rule was for the sausages to contain 65-70% of pork meat of the first category and around 20-25% of fat tissue.

Vice President of the CCIS, Miroslav Miletic, said that taking part in the competition, as well as acquiring the Best Serbian Sausage brand gave local meat producers the characteristics of the brand and was a result of adhering to standards implemented by producers in Serbia.

– Their main characteristic is the quality which meets consumers' demands and an adequate price relative to the quality. As such, the quality of the product is consistent, whether sold in the country of origin or throughout the world – Miletic said.

Ivan Nastasijevic of the Institute for Hygiene and Technology of Meat said that the time had come for quality national products to appear in the market after years of sanctions and deterioration of the local meat industry. He added that, in addition to making for more quality products, it also enables connecting the food industry with Serbia's tourism offer and other aspects of the country's economic development.

The competition was entered by meat industries Topola, Neoplanta, Carnex, Yuhor, Zlatiborac, Gombit, Backa a.d, agricultural cooperatives Trlic and Buducnost, retail shop Dukat from Pirot, as well as the farms of Sava Graorac from Kovilj and Nenad Vojinovic from Kuzmin.
