Administrative procedures through mobile phones in 2018

We will be able to file and cancel residence registrations, renew car licenses, pay taxes and even obtain building permits with our mobile phones in near future. It sounds like something out of an SF movie, but the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government claims that this will be possible in Serbia through the mGovernment project, but not before 2018.

A nearly total digitization of the public administration awaits us next year, which means that citizens will be able to carry out nearly all administrative procedures online.

The introduction of mGovernment means that citizens will be able to communicate with state institutions through their phones from anywhere at any time, as more than 92% citizens own a smart device nowadays.

Citizens will be able to use their phones to file and cancel residence registrations, register a child's birth, replace an old drivers license with a new one, renew a car license, pay taxes, obtain a building permit...

– Our plan is to enable citizens through mobile apps, similar to those used in mBanking, to file registrations and use their accounts at the national eGovernment Portal so as to finish all administrative procedures easily and quickly. To that end, several key technological solutions for proving identity need to be implemented, as there won't be an option of an electronic signature. Other countries already provide mobile solutions for identity confirmation and we will implement them here as well, so that the safety of data and using mGovernment are guaranteed – says Dusan Stojanovic, head of the Directorate for eGovernment at the Ministry of Public Administration.

According to him, the introduction of mGovernment would enable great savings to be made by citizens, the business sector and the state itself. Citizens and entrepreneurs could save not only time, but the money spent for various fees and taxes.
