The first steel production fall in five years

P Five years after constant growth, world steel production during 2015, fell by 2,8%, to 1,62 billion tons the World Steel Association announced (WSA).

China, as the biggest consumer and producer of steel produced last year 803,8 million metric tons of steel, 2,3% less than in 2014 but despite that, its share in global steel production increased by , 0,2%, to 49,5%, France presse agency reports.

In October last year, WSA estimated growth of global demand for steel in 2015 of 1,7%, after which demand increase of 0,7% was estimated for 2016.

Steel production in Japan, the second biggest world producer in the world, decreased last year by 5 % to 105,2 million metric tons while in India it increased by 2,3% to 83,2 million tons.

Last year, European countries produced 166,2 million tons of raw steel which is a fall of 1,8% compared to 2014, WSA announced.
