Cleaning of the Kolubara river bed starts after more than 50 years

The mayor of Belgrade, Sinisa Mali, visited on Thursday, November 19, 2015 the start of works on cleaning of the Kolubara river in Obrenovac which is carried out now for the first time after 50 years and the objective is to increase river flowability and reduce risk from floods. The works will end by the end of the year when it is expected that app. 80.000 cubic of mud, trees and everything else which disabled uninterrupted water flow will be extracted, Beoinfo reported.

- These are the works citizens do not see but they are the most important after strengthening and rehabilitation of walls at the Obrenovac territory. Apart from that, in a year, a lot has been done on rehabilitation of Obrenovac after May floods.– Mali outlined, thanking to the Office fo the Government of Serbia for rehabilitation of flooded areas for good cooperation.

Marko Blagojevic, head of the Office of the Government of Serbia obnovu poplavljenih područja, outlined the works totalling EUR 500.000 are funded with the EU Solidarity Fund and added similar works have been carried out Serbia-wide, outlining that river beds of the Tamnava and Bjelica which flooded Lucane seven times only during 2014 were cleaned and after cleaning this situation has never happened again.

President of the Obrenovac municipality, Miroslav Cuckovic, thanked the Office for rehabilitation and Development and the City Assembly for setting aside extensive funds for safety of Obrenovac and outlined that at the moment, river beds of the Tamnava and the Trstenica have been cleaned.

– The work is essential since these are the rivers which are tributaries of the Kolubara- Cuckovic outlined.

Vladimir Batalovic, technical head at PWC Beogradvode which is also contractor, attended the event, it was communicated.
