Public debt of Serbia at EUR 24.09 billion in May

Serbia's public debt at the end of May 2015 was at about EUR 24.09 billion, which is 72.7% of the gross domestic product (GDP), the Finance Ministry announced in a release.
When compared to April, public debt grew about EUR 90 million.
Direct and indirect liabilities of the state totaled EUR 21.54 billion and EUR 2.55 billion in May, respectively. At the end of 2014, the public debt of Serbia amounted to EUR 22.76 billion (70.9% of GDP), up from EUR 20.14 billion (59.6% of GDP) at the end of 2013.
Public debt in late 2000 was at EUR 14.17 billion or 201.2% of GDP, whereas a record low of EUR 8.78 billion or 28.3% of GDP was hit in 2008.
By the Law on Budget System, the maximum share of public debt in GDP is limited to 45%.
