How Far Have the Works on the Fast Railroad Section from Novi Sad to Subotica Progressed?

The works on the fast railroad section from Novi Sad to Subotica and the state border are going as planned, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure says and adds that the contractors and the subcontractors are ready to complete everything within the new deadline, which is three months shorter than the initial one.

A majority of the structures in the territory of Subotica has already been completed, the overpass on Cantavirski Put will soon open to traffic, whereas Majsan’s Bridge will open to road traffic at the end of May or the beginning of June, those in charge say. The fast railroad itself will be completed by the end of July, after which the testing of the statical and dynamical properties are to begin.

Although the railroad was supposed to be completed by the end of the year, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, recently informed the public that it would be sooner, by three months. The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure clarifies that all the actors of this large infrastructure project are ready for the moving of the deadline. In the territory of Subotica, of the planned six structures on the fast railroad, a majority has already been completed, says the assistant minister Anita Dimoski:

– We can now talk about these deadlines with ease, because we have completed a majority of the structures in the territory of Subotica. Those are the underpasses in Banatska, Maksima Gorkog and Kosovska streets, as well as the overpass at the 179th kilometer. What remains to be solved now is Majsan’s Bridge, the construction of which started a month or two ago. It will also be completed and it is going as planned, which is the end of May, the beginning of June, that is when the planned deadline for opening it to road traffic is.

Regarding the underpass in Losinjska Street, that is, near Pionir, the works there are conditioned on the construction of the collector, which is carried out successively since the first week of September.

– That is the reason why those works are so long, and they are the precondition for the works on the construction of the underpass itself to begin. As for the access routes, construction activities have started. The limiting factor here is the water supply system, which has to be passable in two places – Dimoski adds and says that, at the entrance to the city, on Cantavirski Put, the overpass across the fast railroad will be finished soon as well:

– Load testing is being done there and in the next week or two, three at most, it will also certainly open to traffic.

When it comes to the railroad itself, it consists of a substructure with rails, tracks and switches and the superstructure with the overhead contact line. The plan is for all the tracks to be completed by the end of April, and the portals and poles of the overhead contact line are being done in parallel.

– We will complete the works by the end of July. In August, the contractor will carry out the statical tests and the tests of the geometry of the tracks and the overhead contact line internally, and in the first week of September, Deutsche Bahn will carry out a check, the dynamic testing of the fast railroad, which will open to commercial traffic in December – Dimoski concludes.
